Roby Comblain was born in 1955 in Bujumbura, Burundi. A set designer by profession and trained at La Cambre, he has always been passionate about engraving, eventually making it his career. He also has training in animation, mask making, costume patinas, and exhibition design. He opened an engraving studio in 1999 and has exhibited his work regularly ever since.

Roby Comblain uses engraving as a multifaceted means of expression. The installation and staging of his works are of paramount importance, a joyful organized chaos where interaction with the public
plays an integral part in the installation of his work, like a performance. He enjoys breaking rules, engaging his audience, andtranscending the static boundaries of art.
