I am Justine Cappelle, my work bridges documentary film with an array of unconventional mediums, delving deeply into the nuanced boundaries between fiction and reality, truth and falsehood, control and spontaneity. Born to a mother who had an IUD, I reflect on existence as a series of unpredictable, significant events, allowing this existential curiosity to fuel my works. My work sheds light on overlooked aspects of life and tackles social themes, advocating for the right to exist for people, objects, and intangible forces alike. Issues such as sea level rise, censorship, intersexuality, psychosis, and digital waste shape my artistic discourse, and my films have been featured at festivals like IDFA, FIFA, and Kassel Dokfest.
