Over de kunstenaar

I work around the line between the real and the artificial, exploring how something appears when it is reproduced and how far an image can shift before it loses its original way of looking. Constantly surrounded by images, I move between art historical references and modern visual culture such as video games and memes, trying to capture something that exists in between, a space that holds both the familiar and the altered. Although my background is in painting, I place strong emphasis on experimentation and material exploration. I often move between different mediums such as sculpture and object making, using this process to question the role of painting today. I am interested in how painting, even when flat on a wall, can still occupy and transform space, and how space itself becomes part of the work. For me, space is never neutral. It participates in the making, presentation, and act of viewing. The way an artwork interacts with a space connects to what I mean by its presentation state and its relation to the viewer. An artwork constantly changes as it enters new environments, taking on different meanings and adapting to new contexts. Through this process of experimentation, I try to keep my practice open, allowing form, material, and perception to evolve together.
