My work develops predominantly through mediums of video art and installation, often with sculptural and participatory aspects. I explore topics of social alienation and the interplay between humanity and nature.
Distance to the subject plays an important role in many of my video works. Long, wide-angled shots often show human subjects as an integral part of nature. But such a unified relationship is quickly replaced by one of apparent alienation, with the subjects’ actions now appearing aimless and disorientated when viewed up close.
I capture aspects of the real world that restitute a sense of magic or illusion. This sense is often visible due to the absence of light, the alternation of light and darkness or the presence of masks.
In my recent project I investigate the metamorphosis (or hybridisation) of human and bird and aim to show how the loss of belonging forces the hybrid creature to look for new points of reference and to review its purpose.
